The Friends of Down County Museum was founded in May 1989 when a
group of people came together to promote the aims and objectives
of the museum throughout the community of County Down and beyond.
Over a number of years, the group has grown substantially, until,
today it numbers almost 200 people from all over the world.
The Friends of Down County Museum play a vital role in developing
the work of the museum.
Over the past few years, the Friends have helped out with the cataloguing
of the museum's photographic collection, purchased display cases
for exhibitions and raised money for a number of events.
They also helped to fund the Millennium Wall, and bought high chairs
for the museum tearoom and a baby changing unit. They regularly
assist at busy events like Hallowe'en and St Patrick's Day.
Members of the group enjoyed a packed programme of social events.
Every year trips to other museums and places of historical interest
are organised and the annual dinner is always an enjoyable evening.
Down County Museum depends on its Friends for help in all kinds
of work. Why not join and help even more?
